6 June 2001 - Cirencester, UK.eLearnity, the UK's leading independent e-Learning consultancy today announced the launch of eCommunity™, a radical new e-learning environment to support long term e-learning programmes and learning communities. David Wilson, Managing Director of eLearnity said "eCommunity™ is based on four years of research and development into collaborative learning processes and communities. It pulls together proven best practice in e-learning design with best of breed technology to enable collaborative and action-based learning techniques that are typical for high-value learning programmes such as management development or real organisational change."

eCommunity™ is a community-based learning environment for group collaborative activities and discussions. The current version is based on a Lotus Domino platform and is accessible to participants over the Web or corporate intranet. (Future platform solutions are under development). The application gives learners access to:

  • Learning events
  • Flexible resources incorporating a variety of media
  • Multiple areas for threaded discussions
  • Team based work assignments
  • Private work area
  • Individual and team profiles
  • Personal interest matching
  • Surveys and assessments

"eLearnity is already using eCommunity™ to support a number of consulting engagements" said Sue Honore, eLearnity's Learning Development Manager. "Most notably this includes a senior management programme running within Pfizer UK, developed in partnership with a management development training organisation called Clearworth (www.clearworth.com) . The programme has been running since October 2000 and eCommunity™ provides the virtual campus environment, accessible throughout the whole programme and used to provide supporting resources, manage topic-based discussions and for group and individual work assignments." eCommunity™ is available on hosted or corporate infrastructure and is provided with supporting design and implementation services.
